Blair and Maggie

By Ken Luallen | March 25, 2009

Blair and Maggie shared their connection – and their good looks – with me as we explored the campus of MIT. Blair is an urban planning grad student there and we took advantage of all the great afternoon light bouncing around the buildings.

Tim and Stephanie

By Ken Luallen | March 22, 2009

After 17 years of marriage – and a raft of kids – Tim and Stephanie still have the most beautiful spirit between them. I was honored to pull them away from their busy lives for a few minutes to photograph it.

Micah and Marianna

By Ken Luallen | March 20, 2009

My friends Micah and Marianna are fully enjoying their first year of marriage. We played around on Boston Common to add a few more images to their collection. I love that I get to photograph my couples at different stages of their lives and their journeys together.

  1. Looking good, Ken. And thanks a lot for the JPEG conversion advice at the end of last year. Not many people would be willing to take the time. Have a great season. I look forward to what it will bring for all of us! – Nate Kinnison

  2. You knock my socks off!

Rob and Heather

High over Boston on Mission Hill we caught a little sunlight and a few hints of Rob and Heather’s life together. They have unmistakable peace.

The Space Between

By Ken Luallen | March 15, 2009

Each time I shoot a couple they essentially give me permission to enter the space between them. I believe this is a sacred place; being there and seeing the beauty they share privately is an incredibly humbling and rewarding experience. I do my best to tread lightly and honor them with images that reflect a fraction of what I witnessed.

Showing the inside of relationships this way is the heart of my photography. This year I’ll be focusing much more on finding deeper and more authentic ways of translating these experiences into images. I hope you enjoy the journey. Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting images of couples at different stages of their partnerships. Perhaps you’ll recognize something in their connections that reminds you of how great your own relationships are.

First up, a brief impromptu session with Todd and Susannah, whose wedding in Concord, MA you’ll see later this summer. There’s a great story to be shared and we are all very excited for it.

  1. And an honor to work with you Ken. You made it easy to be at ease. We feel so lucky to have you join us in June. I am so satisfied by these. I feel that Todd and I now have our photos, now we just can’t wait for you to capture our nears and dears. Thank you.

    Very Best,
    Susannah

The College On the Hill

By Ken Luallen | December 23, 2008

Stacy and I went up to see Dartmouth a few weeks ago, the first time we’ve been back in years. It was great to see all the new buildings. As an English major I spent most of my time in the oldest buildings — Dartmouth was founded in 1764 and it’s still centered around the original campus.

Below — Baker Library and inside the library of the Sanborn House, home of the English department. Tea and cookies are served everyday at 4pm!

I helped out my buddy April for a romantic wedding in Wake Forest, NC. Rainy and intimate… with wedding bands on ice.

As an artist, and a difficult subject to capture by camara, I wish you would take my picture! I stumbled upon this site, and encountered something unexpectedly beautiful, thanks for the inspiration. Something More

By Ken Luallen | November 21, 2008

Rick and Sarah’s families went through a tough few months leading up to the wedding but they decided to go ahead with their ceremony just the same. It was a much-needed new beginning for two people who clearly compliment and strengthen each other.

Sarah’s vision for an intimate ceremony brought a small group to the historic St. Mark’s Chapel in Raleigh’s Mordecai Park. She also designed a truly elegant reception atmosphere at the five-star Umstead Hotel in Cary. Terrific reception jazz courtesy of the John Brown Quintet.

The impressive ladies behind Bustles and Blooms held the whole day together — I love talented coordinators who work as a team.

Enjoy!

The first song was playing when Rick proposed!

  1. Rick just shared this gallery with me, and I have to say how fantastic these photos are! You have a great eye for framing and a true talent for catching the feeling of the moment. Looking through these pictures is more like looking at a photospread for a magazine than looking at wedding photos. Great job!

After Dark

By Ken Luallen | November 12, 2008

Steve and Maura married on a rainy Washington DC evening that kept us inside for most of their portraits. No problem — they chose two gorgeous locations near Dupont Circle, the Cathedral of St. Matthew (known for holding John F. Kennedy’s state funeral in 1963) and a historic private club nearby. I love shooting in DC because my brides there put on incredibly classy receptions for their guests. Who knew black tie could be so fun?

Sound on and play.

Before their wedding Matt and Amy invited their friends for a quick photo adventure at Washington’s Tidal Basin and the Jefferson Memorial. It was a nice prelude to a very sweet and intimate ceremony. They then led their guests in a short procession to a super classy reception under the rotunda of the Carnegie Institution.

One of the best parts of a wedding is the release after so much planning and anticipation. Add fine food and great friends to that and you have a spectacular evening.

Chesapeake Sky

By Ken Luallen | October 24, 2008

Patrick and Veronica married on a perfect breezy October afternoon in Cape Charles, on the Eastern shore of Virginia. Their day was relaxed but also very moving, with so many of their relatives able to be part of the celebration. To honor them Veronica wore several pieces passed down through the different generations of their families.

Enjoy their extended wedding story — they threw a party that just kept on giving. To top it off they honeymooned in Santorini! Does it get any better?

Launch it with your sound on here (and leave a few words for my new friends below).
